the real story

Casting a stream, stalking the flats, working the surf or trolling the oceans—wherever there are anglers—Calcutta is there. Calcutta is one of the most widely recognized and trusted names in the recreational fishing industry.

Calcutta was born in Florida in 1991, a time when quality frozen bait was hard to find. The following year, Calcutta set up processing plants in Marathon and Fort Pierce, Florida to market rigged and un-rigged ballyhoo, mullet and mackerel. Making sure fishermen were armed with the “Best Damn Bait” was the company’s number one priority.

As the bait business grew, Calcutta expanded their merchandising to other categories such as t-shirts, hats, rigging wire, pre-tied rigs and other fishing gear.

“Pirate in the Blood…Fishing in the Soul”

Today, Calcutta has grown into a nationwide brand and expanded into a variety of product categories, including fishing tools, tackle bags, sunglasses, rainwear and technical fishing apparel. The Calcutta logo is one of the most recognized in the fishing industry, featuring a skull and crossbones holding a ballyhoo that salutes the company’s roots.

Developed by fishing professionals, Calcutta products are designed for the everyday angler. Calcutta uses information from recreational anglers as well as captains to help improve and bring to market new products that feature the latest industry advancements. Calcutta gear is tested to withstand the harshest freshwater and saltwater fishing environments. Wherever anglers are found, Calcutta is there.
